No worries, I haven't forgotten about my blog updates! It's not that things aren't happening (although they could always move along faster), it's just that the things that ARE happening aren't terribly photogenic. Wiring, plumbing, installing gas lines, upgrading power, stuff like that. BUT, as you see, I have a photo or two that now shows visible progress. The house is now black, all tightly wrapped like a birthday present (well, maybe a present for a really depressed person). And very exciting (drum roll, please) is our new FRONT DOOR, actually on the front of the house, vs. the side front door in the original floor plan. That's a photo of it - behind some plastic sheeting - to save it from dings and dents. But you get the drift.
Speaking of drift... I understand that all my old pals in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Indiana are buried under ice and snow right now. It's about 80 degrees here, in case you were wondering.
We have been told that tomorrow the insulation will be installed and then next week - barring any unforseen hiccups, sheetrock/drywall work will begin. That, we are told, is a BIG step forward... and things will start to happen more quickly afterward.
In the background, Jay and I have been finalizing all the electrical work, cabinetry, plumbing placement, and detail work that is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Soon, it will be time to order the light fixtures and appliances, pick out paint and stain colors, select carpeting and a myriad of other finish materials.
I'm most excited about the greening of our home: solar power, tankless hot water system, low VOC stains and paints, recycled glass, low voltage lighting, bamboo flooring, and - someday soon - a landscape plan that requires very little water. We cannot wait to see how it all comes together!
Until next time.
